Seminar-type courses come with a strict absence policy at SEAS.
classes meeting once a week
three absences are tolerated without any consequence
four absences will normally not be tolerated; the teacher may choose to tolerate 4 absences, but only if he/she specifies the extra tasks to be performed in compensation of the 4th absence, and announces to agree to such a practice at start of term
five or more absences will not be tolerated
classes meeting twice a week
six absences are tolerated without any consequence
more than six, but less than ten absences will normally not be tolerated; the teacher may choose to tolerate so many absences, but only if he/she specifies the extra tasks to be performed in compensation of the 7th absence, and announces to agree to such a practice at start of term
ten absences will not be tolerated
lecture courses
Lecture courses typically do not require attendance (it is useful to attend lectures though ). If a lecture requires attendance, this is specified in the curriculum.
