This course will be devoted to understanding and appreciating issues in Middle English linguistics as regards phonology, syntax and semantics. We will be reading exerpts from Chaucer's Caunterbury Tales mainly. At the end of the course the students will hopefully have mastered the grammatical organisation of this slice of the history of English.
requirements & assessment
physical: no more than 3 absences; mental: regular homework assignments (including the 2 major assignments), one test (end of semester) and a homepaper (a thorough analysis of a short Middle English text).

final grade: based on the average of the two major homework assignments, the test and the homepaper
