This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop their academic writing skills and will prepare them for writing their thesis. Throughout the semester students will be tasked with analyzing the micro- and macrostructure of different academic texts and learning how to reproduce them. In addition, students will be taught the relevant research skills required to produce a satisfactory thesis. A number of academic texts will be examined throughout the course covering a variety of topics related to English linguistics and cultural studies. In order to simulate the thesis defense, students will take part in an oral assessment during which they will summarize their thesis and answer questions from the instructor.

Requirements:
  1. Attend the lessons; you are only allowed 3 unexcused absences (university policy).
  2. Complete work; assignments delivered late will have points deducted.
  3. Keep up to date on the Moodle page for the course.

Assessment: The final grade is based on a combination of the work that the student has completed in class, the literature review that they will write, and the oral assessment.

Materials: There are no mandatory texts that need to be purchased for the course. All materials will be posted on the Moodle page.
