The aim of the course is to introduce students to the work of some significant Irish poets of the 20th and 21st centuries. Students will gain insight into the cultural and historical processes that have influenced modern and contemporary Irish writing. They will also gain experience in interpreting and analysing poetic texts through discussions in class and by preparing individual presentations and essays.

requirements & assessment

The final grade will be based on active participation in class discussions, an approximately 15 minute presentation to be delivered in class during the semester, and an essay of about 3-4 pages submitted at the end of the semester.
