Szigetvári welcomes the members of the Department, especially the two new teaching assistants, Júlia László and Zita Szabó, who briefly introduce themselves. Nathaniel Torres, who has offered to give a course also briefly introduces himself.
Szigetvári talks about the dismissal of Lajos Marosán and the employment of Irina Burukina. He stresses that Burukina is filling Marianna Hordós’s position, who left the department in June 2018. Accordingly, one position is still waiting to be filled.
The Department decide that room 303 will be occupied by Burukina, doctoral students, teaching assistants, and external lecturers move to room 448.

Szigetvári talks about the incorporation of the Theoretical Linguistics Department as a “Centre” of the Department of English Linguistics, as well as the Budapest Research Centre in Linguistic Theory as a Centre of the School of American Studies.
Szigetvári urges all staff to update their office hours, upload a picture if they prefer so, and make sure that their email address in the staff database is not with Yahoo or Hotmail, which have rejected many messages from elte.hu recently.
Szigetvári asks the teaching assistants to consider organizing the Össznyelvész conference once again in late November/early December.
Szigetvári urges any interested doctoral students to volunteer in the Writing Centre. He also informs members of the department of the opportunity to give guest talks in New York organized by the local Hungarian cultural attaché. Interested colleagues should send their name, a short bio, and an abstract of the proposed talk to János Kenyeres.
