elective courses

course description

In the doctoral school, the courses focuses on deepening doctoral students’ knowledge of their own research areas, providing them with theoretical and research methodological training, and preparing them intensively for conducting sound research. This is necessary in order to fulfil the main goal of the training system, i.e., to complete a doctoral dissertation within four years; to provide students with sufficiently individualized, focused, and intensive guidance during their PhD work (given that applicants to the Doctoral School of Linguistics can choose from over a hundred different research topics); and to ensure that students receive adequate support to prepare for the comprehensive exam. During the first four semesters, doctoral students are expected to study the national and the international literature in their field of research, as well as the related theories. In addition to reviewing and critically analysing the literature (the schedule for which is determined together by the doctoral student and the supervisor), the curriculum for each semester may also include attending specific courses. The curriculum is developed jointly by the doctoral student and the supervisor.

Course grades are given by the course tutors.
