Action Suited to the Word: A Conference in Memory of István Géher and Géza Kállay
István Géher (1940–2012) and Géza Kállay (1959–2017) were outstanding scholars and professors of the School of English and American Studies at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest. They have left a rich heritage of thought to their colleagues, students and readers. The School of English and American Studies at ELTE and the Institute of English Studies at Károli Gáspár University, Budapest (where they both taught as well) are co-organizing a conference based on their work and influence, to be held on September 30 and October 1, 2022 in Budapest, in the hope of establishing a tradition of conferences repeated every five years.
The speakers are asked to focus on the following aspects in their 20-minute contributions:
- The ways in which either Géher’s or Kállay’s works have influenced the speakers’ own works in their own fields.
- The ways in which the title of the conference (a paraphrase of a quotation from Shakespeare’s Hamlet) might apply to the attitude or disposition of either Géher, Kállay or the speaker.
You may also apply to participate in roundtable conversations in connection with Géher’s or Kállay’s works in the following fields:
-
Shakespeare Studies
-
Philosophy
-
Poetry
-
Theatre Studies.
Personal memories are also welcome and inevitable — but they are not supposed to form the center of the presentations.
The language of the conference is English with two Hungarian sessions.
