absence policy
Seminar-type courses come with a strict absence policy at SEAS.
classes meeting once a week
- three absences are tolerated without any consequence
- four absences will normally not be tolerated; the teacher may choose to tolerate 4 absences, but only if he/she specifies the extra tasks to be perÂformed in compensation of the 4th absence, and anÂnounces to agree to such a practice at start of term
- five or more absences will not be tolerated
classes meeting twice a week
- six absences are tolerated without any consequence
- more than six, but less than ten absences will normally not be tolerated; the teacher may choose to tolerate so many absences, but only if he/she specifies the extra tasks to be perÂformed in compensation of the 7th absence, and anÂnounces to agree to such a practice at start of term
- ten absences will not be tolerated
lecture courses
Lecture courses typically do not require attendance (it is useful to attend lectures though 
 ). If a lecture requires attendance, this is specified in the curriculum.
